Over and over and over again
You’ve seen me lose my way
With love in Your eyes
You take my hand
And then You gently say
“You’ve been wrong
my Child of Light.
It’s not hard to lose your way.
So take my hand
And together we’ll stand
And send you on your way.”
Over and Over and Over again
Mercy falls on me
So I set my sights high
And fall short again
But still I find myself freed.
Take my hand
My Father of Light
You know, it’s not hard to stray.
So I lay down my life
my worry and strife
To walk with You each day.
Oh Jesus! Jesus!
Over and over and over again,
I will lift Your name on high.
I know I’ve been wrong
Time and again
But I want You in my life.

| I really like to do
my best at being brutally honest in my song writing.
Over and Over was a product of this kind of song writing.
I'm a screw up. If we're all being honest, we all are
to some degree. It is purely by the grace and mercy of
God that we are somehow still accepted by Him. This
song celebrates this part of our relationship with God.
He loves us first and we learn of that and keep messing up.
He pardons us over and over again and we carry on.
Sometimes we get it, sometimes we don't, but regardless, we
are loved and Jesus stands with us. It was from this
thinking that Over and Over was written. The style of
it come from listening to lots of Great Big Sea and Robin
Mark recordings. As a result I think it ended up
sounding a little more eastern Canadian than Irish, but the
influences are there I think.
I have learned that this
song is one of the favourites - especially among youth.
For this reason, I decided to leave the song much as it was
originally created. One of my very favourite parts of
this song is the fact that my father is playing one of the
guitars on the recording. This song has three guitars
all using different tunings. My dad is playing the
highest one. See if you can pick it out. I'm very happy
to be able to have him as a part of this CD. Even if
it was just the one part in the one song. |
