Our Father in Heaven
Holy is Your name
May Your kingdom come Lord
Here on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us today all that we need.
And forgive as we forgive.
Save us from the time of trial
And deliver us from evil
For the Kingdom, Power,
And Glory are Yours now and forever.
And Forever.
Amen. Amen…

| This is another song
that I put together specifically for use in our weekly
services at Holy Trinity. I wanted to write a Lord's
Prayer that was truly singable. It's not the easiest
thing to put to music. Nothing rhymes! I based
my version on the more modern wording of the prayer.
The only line I had to "massage" a bit was the "forgive as
we forgive" line. This bothered be as it kind of
sounds like we're saying, "Lord, you should forgive like we
do. Here watch." I thought about it and found
that the same misinterpretation can be made of the
traditional form, "forgive us our trespasses as we forgive
those who trespass against us" In the end I decided it
still carried the true point of that phrase in the prayer so
I left it. The
recorded version of the song is not actually the original
way the music was used. Originally it was not played
as a swinging sort of groove, but more straight. I
still play it the original way sometimes at church when I'm leading
without a band. The swing version came out of a band I
was in for a Christian retreat weekend. We learned the
song and decided to funk it up a bit. In the end, this
is what we came up with. I liked it so much, I kept it
for both our church band and the CD version. Once
again I have to tip my hat to Michael for his cool bass line
and to Shauna for her back grounds. Nice work guys. |
